Queensferry Quench
You may have seen advance information about Queensferry Quench in the Church Newsletter.
Eight churches in Queensferry, Dalmeny, Kirkliston, Winchburgh, Bo'ness and Barnton are launching a series of three coffeehouse talks on current issues this autumn. They will all be held in the Orocco Pier Hotel on the waterfront in South Queensferry.
The first talk is on Monday 5th October. We're privileged to have David Robertson, the author of The Dawkins Letters, as our first speaker. David wrote his book in response to Richard Dawkins' bestseller The God Delusion. David’s 20 minute talk, entitled Mad, Bad or Sad - why does anyone still believe in God today? will be followed by a time for questions and discussion.
Everyone is welcome at Queensferry Quench. So come along at 7.15pm to pick up a cup of tea or coffee. We would particularly encourage you to think and pray about who you might bring with you. The talks are ideally suited to non-churchgoers and sceptics in relation to Christianity.
For more information, and to pick up some flyers, please speak to Daniel Pearson or contact him on 0131 333 0333.

Family-Friendly Alpha
This year, on Saturday mornings from 19th September to the end of October, we will be running a "family friendly" Alpha course in the Thomas Chalmers Centre.
We are going to base this Alpha course around the theme of food and will offer snacks for the body and food for the soul. We intend to run a kids club and crèche so that as many people can take part as possible. On some Saturdays we will make some food, have a talk and discussion whilst it is cooking and then chat together whilst sharing the food. Other weeks will more closely follow a "traditional" Alpha programme but with the addition of coffee and biscuits.
People attend Alpha for a variety of reasons – non church-goers may want to investigate whether God exists, others may have attended church but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith or feel thatthe just want to know more. People come from many different backgrounds and hold many different viewpoints – and all are welcome! If you are interested in Alpha – either as a guest or as a helper - please note these dates in your diaries. We would also be delighted to hear from anyone who would be able to help in any way – with children’s activities, crafts, games, food preparation or welcoming.
To help to raise funds for this course, on Sunday 13th September we will be holding an Alpha fundraising and fellowship lunch after church. Come along and have your lunch and chat to us about the course. It would be great to see you there!

Christian Action Bus
If you are aged 10 - 15 you can catch the C.A.B. on Fridays between 7pm and 9pm. We
have now been up and running for over 2 months and have had a wonderful reaction
from the children and youths of Kirkliston.
For the next few months, here’s where the C.A.B. can be found:
Stop 1 – Gateside 7.00 – 7.40 p.m.
Stop 2 - The Glebe – 7.40 – 8.20 p.m.
Stop 3: - Leisure Centre Car Park – 8.20 – 9.00 p.m.
These stops are every Friday evening until 12th December 2008 and will start again on
Friday 9th January 2009.
There is room for around 8 young people on the C.A.B.
Regular C.A.B. visitors should watch out for news on our Christmas Get Together on
19th December.
The C.A.B. is driven by volunteers from Kirkliston Parish Church and your Community –
new volunteers are always welcome. Please contact us if you feel that you would like to
help in this way. Our aim is to create a number of zones to allow us to engage with
children and youths around the village in a safe and reliable environment. We want to
get to know you and find out what you want from your community. We'll provide the
space to meet, chat, have fun activities, whatever. Come along and find out for
yourselves. Parents are welcome to come along and speak to us to find out more.
This year has been a great learning experience for both the C.A.B. leaders and the 10 –
15 year olds who have visited us. We look forward to the Friday evenings we are going to
have together in the new year. Parents can be assured that all the leaders have
undergone training and have Disclosure Scotland Certificates.
